External air conditioning units on a house

Questions

Common questions

Almost. It needs an external wall or a route to one for the outdoor unit, and a condensate drain. The survey checks both and suggests the tidiest run.

The indoor unit is quieter than a bathroom fan on its lowest setting. The outdoor unit is about as loud as a fridge from a few metres.

Yes. Most units heat as well as cool, and they are efficient down to well below freezing. Plenty of people use them for shoulder-season heating rather than firing the boiler.

Once a year for a domestic unit, mainly filters and a gas check. It keeps efficiency up and is usually a condition of the manufacturer's warranty.

Yes. A multi-split runs several indoor units from one outdoor unit, which is tidier and cheaper than separate systems.
